Bio: Irina Loren (b.1934, d. 2005) was a Russian born artist whose work was influenced by her mentor Salvador Dali and ceramic tiles of Picasso.

Irina Lorin was Russian born and was educated in Harbin, China. Her family was relocated to Harbin by Czar Nicholas II a year before he was put to death. She was only 5 at that time. After coming to the United States she worked at Paramount Studios with Miss Edith Head and Madame Karinska. Irina was head of accessories for Paramount and worked on such famous films as Lady in the Dark, East of Eden, and several of the Bob Hope “Road” films. Later, she moved to NYC to work with Madame Karinska, designing costumes for the New York Ballet.

At the same time, Salvador Dali was designing sets for the ballet. They met and she began training under him. She opened her own studio in California in the 1950’s. Her tiles are very decorative and characteristic of the 50’s, with the strong influence of contemporaries such as Sorcha Boru, Mark Bellaire and Sasha Brastoff. Her work was characterized by highly styled images in bold design and color.

Her later works included ceramic tile murals sold commercially and several are installed in public works such as her "Calavado" at the Marin County library in California.
